Marta Tonelli

Provisional Psychologist (adult)

After 16 years of living abroad, Marta has returned to Australia to join THE SUITES. Marta is currently a provisional psychologist completing AHPRA's transitional program following her relocation from Rome, Italy where she has practiced as a Clinical Psychologist for the last 9 years. Following the successful completion of her transitional program resulting in general registration, Marta will be able to provide Medicare rebates under a current GP Mental Health Care Plan.

 

Marta's position at THE SUITES builds on over nine years of specialised training in Educational and Developmental Psychology and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.  She holds a five-year university degree in Psychology and a four-year specialisation in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, with a particular focus on adolescents, young adults, and adults. 
 
In her clinical practice, Marta integrates a variety of therapeutic approaches, with a strong foundation in both psychodynamic and psychoanalytic traditions. She approaches her work with a strong focus on assessment utilising both DSM-based assessments alongside internationally recognized frameworks such as the Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual (PDM-2) followed by the use of psychodynamic and relational approaches, offering a flexible and holistic treatment style. 


Marta is experienced in providing patient-centred, brief and longer-term psychotherapy, and tailors her approach to the unique emotional and psychological needs of each individual, helping them navigate personal challenges and foster long-term growth. She specialises in the assessment and treatment of a variety of mental health conditions and provides compassionate, thoughtful care to those seeking help with anxiety, depression, trauma,  relational difficulties as well as issues related to adjustment and life transitions.


Marta is dedicated to supporting individuals through significant life changes, helping them manage the psychological and emotional complexities of adapting to new environments, roles, and stages of life. And, with a deep understanding of anthropological, and philosophical issues, Marta also brings a holistic perspective to her therapeutic work, especially when it comes to culture-related issues. 
 
Marta is fluent in both Italian and English, and available for consultations with adolescents, young adults, and adults who are seeking support and assistance with regard to navigating life's challenge
